READING
We are reviewing cause and effect as well as sequence, paying attention to key words (such as since, because, so and initially, soon, afterward, meanwhile, and after.) We are on Vocabulary Lesson #4. Your child now has a list of our vocabulary words inside the cover of their planner.

LANGUAGE
We are learning to combine simple sentences and correct run-on sentences. Students will write a book review this week (on their Literature Circle book.)

SOCIAL STUDIES
We are learning about the European settlers of Early Maryland. We will explore their culture as we explore the answers to this question: What economic, social, and political factors contributed to the settlement of Maryland?

SCIENCE
We have begun our electricity and magnetism unit. Students predict and test different kinds of electrical systems. They will use their observations to help them build an understanding of a closed pathway or a loop for electricity to travel.

MATH
We are working on expressions and equations. Students should continue to practice memorizing the multiplication fact families, especially 6-12.
