READING
We will continue to read literary text this week. We will concentrate on analyzing characters’ personality traits by considering what they think, say, and do. We will also consider how characters’ actions affect the plot. Finally, we will identify and describe the narrator of the story.
Written homework will begin this week. Students will have homework most weeknights, except Fridays (unless they need to review for a test or finish incomplete class work.) Homework is due the next day, unless otherwise noted. However, just let me know if your child needs additional time to complete it (please send a note or email.) Your child should complete the work independently, but please review it with them that night. Unless otherwise noted, they are welcome to correct their work after discussing it with you.
Students should continue to read at least four nights a week for at least twenty minutes each night. (Let me know if this is difficult with your family’s schedule.) Please don’t forget to record the title on the Home/School Reading log!
LANGUAGE
We will review singular and plural nouns.
Students will continue developing their creative story. We will focus on organization and voice as we revise the first draft.
SOCIAL STUDIES (Continued from last week)
We will learn about the geography of Maryland as we explore the answers to our essential question: How do geographic tools (maps, globes, and atlases) help us better understand our world?
*Map elements-such as legend & scale *Longitude/latitude
*Hemispheres *Bordering states and waterways
*Using intermediate directions and coordinates
SCIENCE
We will continue to study our Solar System. Students will learn about the apparent movement of the sun during the day and explain the day and night cycle of the Earth. We will have our first Science test early next week.
MATH
We will finish and test our unit on Place Value. Students will need to read, write, represent, and compare numbers through 1,000,000. They will also need to write numbers in expanded and word form, and identify the place value of a digit in a given number. Math homework will begin this week; students will have math homework most weeknights, except Friday (unless they need to review for a test, complete unfinished class work, or if they need extra practice on the skill we’re working on.)
Here are a couple of websites that would be a good review:

Please continue to work with your child on memorizing the multiplication/division fact families. They should use the triangular flash cards we made in class.
